UNIVENTURE APP

PROJECT OUTLINE

The UNIVENTURE app is an event finder app that promotes on-campus events, clubs and services to unite Murdoch students and challenge loneliness in the face of social disconnection and isolation.

User research (in the form of on-campus interviews) revealed that students at Murdoch University do not have an accessible solution to finding new friends + hobbies outside of class. And without a means to alleviate this issue, students are more likely to develop feelings of loneliness and FOMO. To fix this, I developed an app that grouped all the university’s clubs, extracurriculars, and events in one place for convenient exploration. By collating everything Murdoch offers, students feel more inclined to investigate what the University is hosting due to ease of access.

This project followed the empathize, define, ideate, prototype and test UX process. This ensured steady progress was made throughout the semester, and enhanced the quality + effectiveness of the project by guaranteeing thorough and human-centred research was being completed. 

During the project, I was responsible for developing UNIVENTURE’s branding, monetisation strategies and layouts. Alongside all graphics and iconography whilst utilising resources from an iOS design system.

OUTCOMES

The UNIVENTURE app is a functional prototype hosted in Figma with 62 screens – the app is implemented with a reward-based and VIP subscription monetisation strategy alongside exhibiting an exciting + playful brand that evokes fun, connection and community.

As my first app-centric project, the creation of UNIVENTURE enhanced my app design skillset, especially regarding element hierarchy and user interaction. 

The largest outcomes of the project were:

  • A developed understanding of user experience design principles and processes

  • Familiarisation of the iOS design system and app UI + user requirements

  • Learning about data triangulation and how to apply results effectively to appeal to users’ needs and wants

  • The completion of a usable app prototype with 60+ navigable screens including animation and in-app monetisation which meets design goals dictated by the wants of real-world Murdoch University students
